Alcohol & Drug Abuse

Alcohol and Drug Abuse is just not a youth issue it's a very serious male adult issue too. We have a proliferation of drugs available now and so many people (youth & adults) are indulging. The result of all this is massive mental health issues.

Alcohol is the top of the list here. It is so widely used and made available for virtually all age groups as low as 13-14yrs. Binge drinking amongst youth and habitual drinking by adults is not unusual. Alcohol causes more havoc and damage than all the drugs listed below. That is a statistical fact. Cigarettes are a close second. Alcohol addiction is the result of poor thinking and because it is generally excepted in society (take a look at all the Liquor Outlets) we all turn a blind eye to excessive usage unless it directly effects us. Growing up with alcoholism by a parent is life changing.

Ecstasy (or other names it is called - E, Ex, E and C, eccy) use in Australia is rampant in many age groups including the over 35 years age group and for many people it is the drug of choice over a weekend. This drug is taken in pill form. It is so much the drug of choice some people can't go through a weekend without it and the whole eccy love vibe. It creates a shallow existence if you are regularly using the drug and it has been around since the late eighties so we can now see the serious damage and personalty changes it inflicts on those with regular usage over a number of years.

Speed and the many derivative forms of this white powder are in prolific use as well. All these drugs are called Amphetamines. These are a group of drugs made from different chemicals. Amphetamines are stimulant drugs. This means they speed up the brain and nervous system. Most people call amphetamines 'speed'. Other names include 'crystal meth', 'base', 'ice' or 'shabu'. Speed is snorted or injected.

'Ice' is really classified as a methamphetamine and is widely used now in drug circles. Some people within the Mental Health Council area state that it certainly is a performance enhancing drug. Certain sports stars have been identified being addicted. It has multiple uses. Users go on a bender, don't sleep, crash and then three or four days later start the cycle again.

Heroin is another one of a group of drugs known as 'opiates' (sometimes called 'narcotic analgesics'). Other opiates include opium, morphine, codeine, pethidine and methadone. Heroin can also be referred to as smack, skag, hammer, h, or horse. Heroin is mainly injected. It is as much a white collar drug as a blue collar. It is scary and highly addictive yet smart drug users (some you may even know), use it with skill regularly.

If you are seeking info on the matter go here alcohol and drugs info getting informed is your responsibility. All drugs cost money and rampant drug use costs lots of money! So there is a clue there...

We know the habitual use of cannabis these days has psychotic effects because of the THC (Delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol; the main active ingredient in marijuana, which acts on the brain to produce its effects) levels. Because a lot of Cannabis is now grown indoors by hydroponics growth, lots of chemicals/other additives are applied. Nick names include Mary Jane, Bob, dope, grass, hooch, herbs, weed, and gunja. Hashish is the produced product from heads of the cannabis plant and is black/brown in colour and sticky. This is also smoked or spotted and inhaled over a flame.

The power of silence is not necessarily the way to go on this one if your children are regularly using cannabis! I’m sure you will see the noticeable personality changes if not and you need specific information read this as Elaine Walters has had 15 years experience working with families affected by drug use and mental health issues..
